Capturing The Gains Of The Public Sector Duties In Scotland
The EHRC has commissioned OSDC to carry out a short research project to identify good practice in Scottish public bodies. The research will capture the gains that have come about as a result of the general and specific duties on public bodies to promote equality in relation to race, disability and gender. The research will also look at work around the newer equality strands. Please email osdc@blueyonder.co.uk with details of examples.
EU Equal Treatment directive
Equality groups across the EU are calling for a new combined directive on equal treatment outside employment. Click here for a letter from the Equality & Diversity Forum to President Barroso. A similar letter has been sent to Commissioners Mandelson and Spidla and has been copied to all UK MEPs and the Government Equalities Office.
Equality Bill
The Government has proposals for an Equality Bill in its Draft Legislative Programme 08/09. The main elements of the Bill are:
- Making Britain fairer through a single equality duty
- Making public bodies more transparent
- Enabling employment tribunals to do more to tackle unlawful discrimination
- Extend existing positive action measures
- Making the law more accessible and easier to understand, by bringing together nine major pieces of legislation and around 100 other laws in a single Bill
