Our values
Feminism
EVAW is a feminist organisation and this guides all our work including campaigns, method of working, work with members and employment practices. We are a secular space and will strive to be an accessible and inclusive organisation, at membership, staff and Board levels. We believe that violence against women and girls (VAWG) is both a cause and consequence of women's inequality.
Equality and Human Rights
We work within a human rights framework that recognises VAWG as a violation of women's human rights, both in the UK and globally. We also recognise that inequalities in women's lives are complex and intersected, which affects both the forms of violence they experience and their options in dealing with it.
We will strive not to replicate hierarchy in how we work. We will ensure that EVAW works in an inclusive way that gives a voice to organisations working across both the breadth of violence experienced by women and girls and the nations and regions of the UK. We will seek to ensure that the most under-resourced parts of the VAWG sector with least access to power are given a voice.
Leadership
We are independent from government and will speak with a strong and radical voice to shape agendas and create change.
Integrity and professionalism
We will work strategically to eliminate VAWG, based on the evidence. We are committed to keeping up to date with research and survivors’ perspectives and to this end will strive to ensure that EVAW is a space where received wisdom can be questioned constructively and debate encouraged where there is currently no consensus.
We will work collaboratively, sharing skills and knowledge.
