TV shows like Married at First Sight UK are hugely popular with audiences and highly lucrative for production companies and TV networks. They have a duty of care to the people who take part in the programme.
These shows are not just entertainment – real people are involved, and what we see on screen has a huge influence on our collective attitudes to sex and relationships. Reports of rape, sexual violence and abuse must be acted on appropriately and urgently – ratings must never come before safety.
