Today, the End Violence Against Women Coalition turns 20!
Today on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – and the start of 16 Days of Activism on Gender-Based Violence – the End Violence Against Women Coalition celebrates its 20th anniversary!
To mark this milestone, we’ve produced a zine documenting our history and incredible achievements over two decades. Rooted in the rebellious, DIY spirit of protest, zines have a long history of being used as a tool for campaigning and inspiring change.
To create this zine, we asked some of our founding members, experts, survivors, academics and key figures in our movement to contribute, reflecting on our achievements together over the last 20 years.
Our history and vision for the future
When we came together 20 years ago, we were clear on our goal: to end violence against women and girls in all its forms. That mission still drives us today, as men’s violence evolves and adapts to our increasingly online world and we’re faced with a range of new challenges.
Whilst we’ve contended with everything from austerity to the pandemic and rising extremism, we’ve made real change over the years and our work has had a lasting impact. We’ve shaped policy, secured stronger legal protections, influenced cultural and attitude change and remained focused on centring the voices of marginalised women.
As we look to the future, we are proud to be growing our movement and standing firm in our values as men’s violence evolves and adapts to our increasingly online world.
Our belief in a different and better world has carried us through these 20 years and drives us forward in our mission to end all forms of violence against women and girls for good.
